OVERVIEW
Neurodegenerative disorders affect the structure and function of the central nervous system, leading to the progressive loss of cognitive, motor, and sensory abilities. They include Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson’s disease, motor neuron disease, multiple sclerosis, Huntington’s disease, stroke and traumatic brain injury.
Neurodegenerative disorders pose a major challenge for public health as they affect millions of people worldwide. Moreover, they are associated with a high burden of disability, morbidity, mortality, and socioeconomic costs. And yet, there are no medicines to slow the progression of disability.
This symposium will review the progress made in the quest to discover new medicines to slow the progression of disability associated with neurodegenerative disorders.
